On Critical Psychology and its critics on the four mainstream psychology approaches - Essay ExampleThese mainstream approaches are most commonly taught in universities and colleges and more often used by clinicians and researchers in explaining human doings (Prilleltensky & Fox, 1997, p.4).The behaviourist or behaviourism approach is concerned mainly with observable behaviour as opposed to unseen emotions like feelings or thoughts. This approach believes that behaviour manifests as a response to a stimulus. It also believes that our behaviour is largely compulsive by our environment (Simply Psychology, n.d.).The humanistic approach emphasizes on the richness of studying consciousness and human experience in order to completely explain behaviour. It highlights the importance of more individualistic and idiographic methods of study, particularly in the areas of personality and abnormality (Walker, n.d). It also focuses on the value of responsibility and freedom of choice. The cogniti ve approach in psychology focuses on our thought processes, how we think-and how such thought processes affect our behaviour (Psychologist World, 2008). This approach focuses on using the scientific approach in explaining human behaviour. cognitive psychologists attempt to create rules and explanations of human behaviour and eventually generalize them to everyones behaviour (Psychologist World, 2008).The psychodynamic approach was popularized by several psychologists. Sigmund Freud founded this approach which emphasized the influence of the unconscious brain on behaviour (Wagner, 2008a). He believed that the mind was composed of three elements id, ego, and superego. Erik Ericksons approach was also classified as psychodynamic. He expanded on Freuds theories and emphasized the importance of growth throughout the lifespan. These mainstream approaches to psychology have been criticized by various practitioners, especially by emerging critical psychologists. They believe that mainstream

Types of spontaneous abortion - Research Paper ExampleMiscarriages happen when the person has some wellness issue or gets into a situation that whitethorn shock her body physic in ally (Walter, 2011). There is also the pillow slip of abortion induced at will. This is the virtually common form with the term abortion. With these types of abortion, there ar the safe ones carried out in medical institutions and there ar the unsafe ones carried out that oftentimes take in in various complications and in the worst cases death. There are very many legal and ethical issues involved with the issue of abortion and it is important to revue all of them to familiarize. Types and Issues in Abortion Many of the abortions over the years have been due to unwanted pregnancies. Many of the people that get pregnant unwillingly are overcome by guilt to a point where they cannot handle bearing a child. There is also the factor that they may not be previous(a) enough to handle the responsibility o f having a child. This mostly happens in underage teenagers who do not observe ethics upheld by society and engage in unprotected sex. However, for the abortions carried out clinically, various issues lead to their effectiveness (Stotland, 2010). One of the major reasons as to why a doctor may advice for the carrying out of an abortion is a condition at which the mother is at a risk of health if she continues bearing the fetus in the womb. As stated, there is also the spontaneous type of abortion. This is where the mother loses the pregnancy due to physical and health issues unwillingly. When the embryo bursts earlier than expected, a miscarriage may occur or a premature birth. It all depends with the health condition of the embryo around that time. When a miscarriage happens, it has many implications on the mother. This is because the mother had expected the child to be born in a healthy matter only to lose it (Stotland, 2008). One of the ways through which the mother may be affect ed by this form of abortion is emotionally. One of the issues to observe when dealing with the issue of abortion is the safety observed when carrying out of the procedure. There is both the safe and unsafe ways of carrying out abortion. Today, organisations need no longer concern themselves with service Essay

Today, organisations need no longer concern themselves with service quality, satisfaction and customer inscription value is now the key to corporate triumph - Essay ExampleAmong the many reasons why I agree with the above statement is that value has survive a core function in Business Corporation to the extent that it has been relative to the overall organisational endeavour and success in its commercial activities. In essence, values are those principles that govern the existence, purpose and overall activities of an organization. Therefore, every organization is governed by certain principles that constitute its value (Cahill, 2006, 34). Value is a broad archetype that underscores the inherent essence of an organization or in simple terms value underscores the organizational personality and moral fibre. As a result, value is of capital importance in determining the efficacy of a corporation and has often been described as the key to organizational success in modern times. The exploitation of organizations has witnessed a radical change in the priorities that govern organizational success. For instance, there was a time when quality was the core function of organizations and the success of Business Corporations was hinged on the capacity to deliver quality goods and services. During this time, most organizations primarily focused on quality parameters of their convergences and ignored the other considerations.Previously, the marketing concept defined organizational success as a function of marketing whereby an organization was successful only if it properly marketed its goods and services appropriately. The marketing concept was a quick replacement of the product concept that insisted on quality. In essence, the marketing concept implied that quality was not as important as marketing since customers buy goods on the basis of organism persuaded and not on the basis of quality (Hurth, 2006, 8). The customer satisfaction concept, on the other hand, lays em phasis on the satisfaction of customers needs, fantasies and desires as the primary determinant of organizational success. This premise is based on the assumption that

Effective Employee Communication (in perspective of Employee to Essay

Effective Employee Communication (in perspective of Employee to Employee) - Essay ExampleIn organisations, intercourse plays a key role in the efficiency, effectiveness and ultimately the boilers suit performance of the organisation. Communication in an organisation mainly takes two forms based on the direction of run for of information in the organisation. They include vertical and plain communication. Vertical communication takes two forms, which is defined by the downward flow of information from the management to the subordinates, mainly in the form of directives and instructions, and upward communication which exemplifies the flow of information in the form of feedback and requests from the subordinates to their supervisors and managers. Horizontal communication on the other hand is the conveyance of information betwixt employees at the same level in the organisation e.g. departmental heads and same level managers or even the lowest level of employees. The main focus of this paper however, will be on the employee to employee communication within the organisation and its effectiveness. Generally, employee communication inter se can either be formal or informal. Formal communication involves transmission of information in an official capacity, mainly written or documented within the employees of the organisation while informal or grapevine communication involves the exchange of information between the employees on an unofficial capacity and they do not need to follow proper channels in relaying information on the grapevine. Communication between employees is in addition a key pillar in the success of an organisation even though most organisations pay little attention to it. Research conducted over the geezerhood in many organisations has shown that peer communication and relations between employees can be of great source of employee motivation, can alleviate job-related stress and hence charge reducing the levels of job satisfaction and employee turno ver. Personality and Time Perception Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Personality and Time Perception - Essay ExampleStress-depleted attention processes change by reversal foc employ on travail relevant activities and attention to time-based cues is inhibited, that distorts perceptions of time-in-passing and for time recollection in memory (Hancock & Weaver, 2005). Time perception with regard to personality traits has had some investigation, initiated by Eysencks interest in the theme of personality. Eysenck determined that two pre-dominant personality factors existed the tendency to experience negative emotions (Neuroticism N) and the tendency to enjoy positive events (Extroversion E). E and N provided a 2-dimensional space to describe individual(a) differences in behavior, very similar to the longitude and latitude coordinates on a global map. Eysencks strength was to construct a model that detailed the causes of personality (Eysenck, 1970). He suggested that extraversion was the result of variability in cortical arousal and that introverts tende d to have higher levels of activity as compared to extraverts, and were inherently more cortically aroused than extraverts (Hancock & Weaver, 2005). This at commencement ceremony may appears counterintuitive, only that the solitary behavior of introverts seeks to dampen cortical stimulation, whereas the extravert seeks to heighten their levels of stimulation though impulsiveness and openness to experience. These patterns of behavior can be predicted victimisation the Yerkes-Dodson Law (i.e., an empirical relationship surrounded by arousal and performance). So that performance increases with cognitive arousal but only to a certain pointl, when levels of arousal become too high, performance will decrease. There appears to be an optimal level of arousal for any given task (Twenge, Catanese, & Baumeister, 2003).One study that investigated Eysencks personality dimensions and perceptions of time used the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised (EPQ-R) and two temporal discrimination tasks. It was found that participant accuracy in the timing of brief intervals was unrelated to EPQ-R scores. And that accuracy of timing for longer intervals between 1-2 seconds was found to be significantly associated with the personality dimension of psychoticism (P), an introvert trait (Lienert & Rammsayer, 1998). Overall, introverts defined as low-P performed the most poorly of all the EPQ-R categories.Clearly, there is limited publications available that investigates correlations between time perception and the personality trait Extroversion. This is a fault, as time perception dysfunctions have been related to impulsiveness and anti-social behaviors. The concept of impulsivity was stated by Eysenck to be a facet of extraversion (Eysenck, 1970). It appears that the cognitive tempo, or internal clocks, of the impulsive individual may run faster than those deemed non-impulsive. Sp that the impulsive person is more likely to overestimate and underproduce time intervals (Hancock & Weaver, 2005). Contemporary literature generally considers impulsivity to be a trait in its own right that is highly gibe with extraversion.Patients diagnosed with orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) damage have exhibited impulsive behavior as well as showing deficits in time perception. Further, damage to the OFC has been related to dis-inhibition or socially inappropriate behavior and emotional patterns (Berlin, Rolls, & Kischka, 2004). Hence, there

SPEAKER NOTES 2 - Essay ExampleWithout passion, one can never be fitting-bodied to enjoy their occupation or fruits of their hard work because money can come and go but job satisfaction go away always remain as a testimony. Perhaps another insight that comes up in the launching is the fact that most people do not realize their full potential due to lack of self-esteem of adequate confidence. Undeniably, real success can never visit any person unless they understand their inner ability to the maximum and exploit it fully. Although the presentation is fair enough as far as giving insight into the business world is concerned, it is worth(predicate) noting that certain issues such as the art of winning contracts and tenders require more consideration. Before one ventures into private practice, they need to consider whether they will be able to win and implement contracts successfully, as there is more to it than meets the eye. Additionally, one needs to consider whether the capital they have is enough to finance their prospective businesses. This is especially so because while some ventures require small amounts of finances to start, others require huge capital input that might drain an individual hoping to establish a start-up. in the end but more importantly, one ought to conduct an accurate cost benefit analysis in every endeavor in order to ensure that the obstinate consequences of a particular project do not exceed the anticipated benefits. When it comes to controversial issues such as the ability to achieve success without prior experience, I slightly differ with the presenter due to a number of reasons. Essentially, one needs a bit of experience so that they can be able to execute their duties effectively the absence of which they ought to learn first. This means that can has to undergo various significant stages in life before being fully fitted for any eventuality, an aspect that the talker dint seem to mention. The controversy struck when the spe aker simply mentions that they can achieve both personal and professional success without having to absorb initial experience. Besides, the speaker does not explicitly reveal the fundamentals of professional growth that encompass dedication, discipline, and motivation from those who have achieved success. From the issues discussed in the presentation, I personally fall in with the idea of having a positive attitude in whatever one is doing. Since success in career and business largely depend on the temerity with which one believes in themselves and their undertakings, I find the speakers words quite motivating to the extent that they are worth emulating. Indeed, I have interacted with these interesting perspectives in the erstwhile(prenominal) whereby I had to take courageous steps in choosing a career that most of my peers shunned owing to its relative toughness. Similarly, when I once wanted to start a business, I had to sacrifice my pride and begin small so that I could grow m y business from strength to strength. Finally, one important insight that I gained from the presentation besides having the audacity to try out new things was that everyone is unique in their own ways and can influence the world in a unalike way. According to Venkataramany and Bhasin, financial inclusion and government intervention plays a major role in enhancing financial success of citizens, contrary to what was said by the speaker in the

Ted (the president) has the most obvious power at the start of the play, although he steadily loses it throughout as the other characters strive to improve their standing. The desire for power is fundamentally universal, and there is resentment from those who are not in power towards those who are. These sporting attitudes have been clearly evident in sport in the last fewer decades.Attitudes towards commercialism are also explored in The Club. In the play, the Club itself is just beginning the road to commercialisation with the purchase of Geoff Hayward (the star recruit) for $90,000. However, Gerry (the administrator) and Jocks plans for beside year not only include the dropping of some Club traditions, but also extensive commercialisation as wealthy entrepreneurs are recruited for sponsorship gold which will be phthisisd to buy more players. Jock is a person who supports the commoditisation of players when it is in agreement with his goals. For example when trying to avert a players strike, Jock claims that former Club heroes would be disgusted by the idea, I want to turn all those photographs around so they dont have to work out down on this shameful scene. However, it is later revealed that Jock supports the buying of players and a coach who has not played for the Club, both of which are against traditions, to ensurethat the Club wins a premiership coterminous season. This hypocritical attitude towards tradition is probably a fairly typical Australian attitude. This attitude presented by Williamson is probably even more widespread now, as success and the reaching of goals is seen as being even more important today. Loyalty is also an important issue in The Club, although each of the characters is loyal in very different degrees and ways. Some of the characters, like Danny, are fiercely loyal to others for example Danny threatens a players strike if Laurie is forced to resign, If that bloody committee of yours gives Laurie the boot tonight, past we dont play tomorrow. Other characters, like Jock and Gerry, lack loyalty to other people and will manipulate and lie for their own face-to-face advantages but are loyal to the Club as a whole. Gerry believes that, Loyalty to any one individual is a luxury you cant gift in a business with a multi-million dollar turnover. Gerrys pragmatic attitude is perhaps typical of the attitudes which are becoming commonplace in the rough business world of the 1990s. In The Club, David Williamson utilises realistic dialogue to assume convey meaning and enrich the text of the play.Williamson achieves realistic dialogue through the constant use of many language maneuvers including emotive language insults, interruptions, sarcasm, idioms, colloquialism, slang, irony, jargon and hyperboles. The main purpose is to depict power and domination between characters. This is done through a device such as tone, as it creates an atmosphere of tension and conflict. Tone is shown between the two most powerful characters, Gerry the football administrator and Laurie the Clubs coach.Gerrys tone is calm and uses very formal language, which indicated his power and control over other characters. Youre scarcely in a position to be delivering ultimatums, Laurie. Laurie also shows control by his tone and word choice. If you play well enough and the team plays well enough for the rest of the year, theyll find it pretty hard to exit me. The tone in Lauries dialogue changes from exasperation to control indicating that he has become his own master. Lauries approach to dealing with situations shows his power and dominates. The shift in tone of Gerry and Lauries dialogue emphasises the power shifts that take place in The Club. The frequent use of slang and colloquial language represents the Australian culture and way of life. Also, use of football jargon such as goal-to-goal line shows how familiar the club members are with their sport. Another purpose shown throughout the play is the unconnected relationships between characters. Williamson has created this purpose through the use of sarcasm used by the characters. In the first scene, Ted and Danny have come across as having a foreign relationship as there are many problems associated with the football club. This is lovely, really delightful, a strike threat. By Ted using sarcasm it gets Danny worked up thusly has created a conflicting relationship. Danny who is a young footballer complains about how little money he has in the back. I can hardly wait, Im taking my two best friends to Pizza Palace and putting the other half in the bank. This has added tension between the two cha racters, and has showed how they use dialogue to create conflicting relationships.Sarcasm adds a feeling of resentment and reflects an unwillingness to be open to the prospect of resolution. Williamsons portrayal of characters, even nowadays, reflects many Australian attitudes very accurately, even though the play was written many decades ago. Some of the attitudes expressed, especially those regarding the commoditisation of sport, are even more relevant today than when the play was written, small-arm others, such as tradition, are still equally relevant in the current Australian society.By studying The Club it has also helped demonstrate how purposes are made by using a range of language devices such as tone and sarcasm, therefore showing how dialogue helps express its underlying theme or power and relationships. It is because of this that David Williamsons 1978 play The Club is still being performed as it gives audiences a realistic perspective into the past, present and future o f sport.

Politics in Nigeria Essay Example for Free

Politics in Nigeria EssayIs there any lesson to be learnt in the war on panic where the proponents vowed never to dialogue or negotiate with terrorists, only to now realize, after the demise of thousands and loss of billions of dollars, that dialogue is the only option left for a pertinacious peace in Iraq and Afghanistan? Do we see such favour and sensationalism by the press on these botched attempts as we witness when the culprits happen to be Muslims? What would have happened if those Christians had succeeded in carrying out the blast? In a nation where the press in mainly in the hands of people of a special(a) credence, it is hard to be neutral in their reportage of these kinds of events especially if it reinforces a stereotype and serves a hot selling item of news. John Akpava was caught with weapons at a Ministerial Press Briefing held at Radio House, Abuja. What would the press have done with this story if John Akpava were a Muslim? A suicide paladin was allowed into the premises of the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN), Jos, by a fellow member of the church, who detonated explosives that led to the death of 8 persons 38 others were seriously injured. The Sun composition of Tuesday, March 6th, 2012 reported that the said Boko Haram suicide bomber was identified by The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), as Mr. Adams Joseph Ashaba, who allegedly masterminded the bombing of the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) in Jos, the Plateau State capital on February 26, disclosing, that he was actually a member of the Church. In another report on Daily authority of Monday, February 27th, 2012, 8 members of the same (COCIN) were arrested this time in Bauchi with explosive devices desiring to set ablaze the church. Their arrest was almost thwarted by some Christians, but for the timely discussion of the Police. The in a higher place examples and that of the arrest of Augustine Effiong of Akwa Ibon origin who was reported by Thisday of May 21st, 2012, to have co nfessed his involvement in the BUK bombings, should make Muslim and Christian leaders realise that we argon all in this together, and that we should work in harmony to bring most workable solution to the problem of insecurity in Nigeria. We have to do this. The problems of this nation could only be solved by Nigerians. Yes, we can listen to good advice from abroad, and learn from other peoples experiences on similar matters. The ambivalence of the tabu is not to be seen as a bad thing. A polarised world is the one which should be strange. What we hold dear are not the same our perceptiveness of who God is and what His Laws are is also varied and diverse. The only thing we can firmly attest to as people is that we are brothers in humanity. The multiplicity of religions is a manifestation of our diverse backgrounds and reasoning. While some are content to worship the air and trees others worship a fellow being as god. Look at Christianity and Islam for example In either faith, we h ave hundreds of sects and variants. Each sect or variant in turn has its own idiosyncrasies and modes of worship and body of beliefs. The realisation that every(prenominal) time you are looking at the number 6 on a table, another sees the number 9 across that table helps to devise mover to study and tolerate conflicting ideologies. While Muslims have been stereotypically dubbed as violent, Christians have had their share of stereotypes too. A typical uninformed Muslim thinks all Christians are Crusaders, nerve-racking to snuff out the light of Islam. He detests the Christians in his surroundings and distrusts them. When he meets the right Christian, he is confused and disorientated. He asks more and learns he deepens his understanding and the shallowness of undue hate goes away. We also have stories of Christians referring to Muslims as idolaters and heathens who slaughter a ram every year to their god. One of such ignoramuses even wrote a keep back he titled Who is This Allah? H e used that rare opportunity to show just how ignorant he is. The average uninformed Christian distrusts and despises the Muslims. The irresponsible journalism tactics employed by some media houses have also helped fuel the problem. The annual holidays connected to the Christian faith given by the Federal establishment and most state governments are the Christian New Year, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Christmas and Boxing Day. We also have the weekly holidays of Saturday and Sunday to enable them go and worship. On the Muslim side we have the yearly holidays of Eidul Adha, Eidul Fitr and Mawlidun Nabiyy. The Osun state governor decided to give the Muslims their right by making 15th November, which corresponds to 1st Muharram a unexclusive holiday. Objectively, no one should have any issues with that after all, are citizens are equal and what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander but alas That was not to be The Christain owned Punch newspaper wrote an editorial condemning it and saying Nigeria is secular. How convenient Muslims say he was sent by God as a messenger, holder of glad tidings and warner against the impending doom of the end of time. They revere him and truly believe in him. They do not elevate him to a rank above prophethood. Any attack on his personality is an affront on their faith. The Muslims believe that Jesus (or Eesa) the son of the Virgin Mary is alive, never died or resurrected, ascended to the heavens until his return, is a great prophet who was born in one of the four ways God perpetuates life.Any insult on him is an affront on the Muslim faith and any who disbelieves in him is not a Muslim. The Christians have two main beliefs about him. One says he is in fact God, Lord and Saviour a part of a triune while the other contends that he was sent by God but lesser than God. These are clearly opposing views about the same people Do we go out and persecute those who do not share the same sets of beliefs with us? Only a fool entrust answer in the affirmative This madness must stop, and to stop it, we must screw ourselves and what we hold dear better that is no fools calling. We know and believe that if more of us know what you and I know today and if more are willing to practise our faiths to the letter, there will be olive-sized or no bloodshed. Over centuries Muslims and Christians and Jews have been murdered for the simple reason that they belong to a different faith we can and must stop it.

Assessment For Learning Essay Example for Free

Assessment For Learning EssayAlthough hamlet and Agamemnon both follow Aristotles definition of tragedy, I believe critical point is a more sad play. Many more innocent lives were taken in Hamlet than Agamemnon. Hamlet, Gertrude, Ophelia, Polonius and Laertes were all killed due to Claudius deceptive and cheating ways. In Agamemnon, Cassandra and Iphigenia were the just now innocent lives taken, both caused by Agamemnons lack of morals. The sheer number of deaths in Hamlet that were caused by unjust means and intentions brings a great center of unrest to the audience. It holds even greater unrest for the audience when compared to Agamemnon. The level of understanding I had with all the characters was far greater in Hamlet than in Agamemnon. Hamlet, the tragic sub in his play, was the main character. The audience was able to connect and sympathize with him through his struggles with avenging his father and his many soliloquies.Touching on the topic of Hamlets desire for sui cide in his soliloquies gives the impression that he is trapped in his life. Even though he may be miserable in the being he lives in, suicide is forbidden by his religion, and thus he is trapped to stay in a world he hates. Agamemnon does not appear in his play until at least half way through. This makes it difficult to justify Agamemnon, the tragic hero in his play, as the main character. His wife, Clytemnestra is the main character since her fiction is followed from the beginning to the end of the play. Making a connection with the tragic hero in Agamemnon is much more difficult since the audience does not have a chance to connect with him, ultimately making his death less tragic and compelling to the audience. An element of Aristotles definition of tragedy is involving a tragic hero of higher standing. Both of these plays follow that element. Hamlet is the prince of Denmark. Agamemnon is the king of Argos, Greece. Both of these men make and error in judgement that eventually le ads to suffering and their final downfall. Hamlet accidently kills Polonius, believing him to be Claudius. This sets a chain of events in action that leads to the death of not only himself, but many people around him. Agamemnon makes the mistake of believe his wife upon his return. He walks on the purple silk into his palace, where Clytemnestra kills him. This event feels less tragic since the audience almost believes Agamemnon deserves death for sacrificing his own daughter and taking Cassandra as a concubine.
